Flood susceptibility mapping

Flood susceptibility mapping is a national map series that shows the likelihood of flooding across different areas in Canada over multiple decades.

This updated version improves an earlier one-time map by incorporating yearly and seasonal data, along with a larger set of known flood locations used for model training. These enhancements make it possible to:

• assess how flood susceptibility varies from year to year
• identify long-term trends
• detect years that were unusually wet or dry
• predict possible flood susceptibility under future climate change scenarios

The flood susceptibility mapping collection contains:

• historic yearly maps (2000 to 2023) showing the calibrated probability of flood susceptibility
• future climate scenarios of flood susceptibility
• Trends and extreme scenarios showing trends of increasing or decreasing flood susceptibility, extreme wet and dry years, upper and lower bounds derived from the extremes, and probable present day flood susceptibility
